Teams must identify who their Manager is (this can be a paddler) This will be our point of contact for the campaign.

Clubs must contact Waka Ama New Zealand to discuss any potential changes to the paddlers in the team. Changes must be approved by the WAC.

Any paddler requiring a TUE must submit their TUE to Waka Ama NZ by 20 May

2nd IVF World Distance Championships


Age Division V6 teams and V1 paddlers (above) are self-funded. Teams and individuals are responsible for booking their own flights and accommodation. You should plan to be in Mooloolaba in time for the opening ceremony on Saturday 10th August. 

WAKA AMA NEW ZEALAND WILL:

  • Provide National age division teams and V1 paddlers with a racing uniform top (Paddlers will receive 1 top if they are in V1 and V6) 
  • Provide national age division teams and V1 paddlers with an off the water shirt that is to be worn at the opening ceremony (Paddlers will receive 1 top if they are in V1 and V6)
  • Make other items of NZ representative clothing available for purchase 
  • Coaching clinics at least 1 per team with the National Distance Coach
  • Letter for each paddler in the team acknowledging national age group representation 
  • Will manage onsite racing logistics and any IVF management tasks or protests
  • Will facilitate a combined training camp for all age group teams representing New Zealand at the World Championship. (Costs will be outlined in advance of camp) 
  • Will pay the entry fee to the World Distance Championship. 

POLICY:

  • Teams/V1 paddlers must confirm that they are taking up the position by 30 April 2019.
    • Should the winning LDN team or V1 Paddler decline the position it will be offered to the next place team until the spot is filled. 
    • Once selected by winning the 2019 Long Distance Nationals the Team and their Club will acknowledge that they are representing New Zealand and will agree to adhere to the Waka Ama New Zealand Code of Conduct.
    • The winning club teams may change no more than two (2) paddlers from their team that raced at LDN’s, unless those changes are discussed, justified and agreed to with the World Management Committee who will include for this purpose the National Distance Coach of the relevant gender. 
    • Should more than 2 paddlers withdraw from a team, then the team will be withdrawn and the next place team at the 2019 Long Distance Nationals will be offered the spot.
    • All Age Division teams and V1 paddlers are self-funded. 
    • Clubs/teams must consult with Waka Ama New Zealand before submitting any funding or sponsorship applications or requests.  Funding and sponsorship must not clash with any national sponsorships and it must not contain alcohol or tobacco advertising. 
    • New Zealand Age Division teams and V1 paddlers will be required to wear a national racing uniform top provided by Waka Ama New Zealand during racing.
    • Paddlers cannot paddle in more than one age category unless the difference is in W6 and V1, i.e the paddler is in a W6 Master 40 team but wins the spot to be the V1 Master 50 representative.
    • Open Elite paddlers cannot race in W6 Age category events at the World Championships.
    • Clubs/Crews must confirm with proof by 1 June 2019 that they have paid deposits for travel to the World Distance Championship.  

UNIFORM AND WAKA AMA NZ LOGO :

  • All teams are now New Zealand representative teams. Waka Ama NZ will provide each paddler with 1 (one) racing top and 1 off the water shirt. An order form will be circulated for sizing.
  • Other NZ representative uniform items will be made available for purchase.  
  • Any use of the Waka Ama NZ logo or Waka Ama NZ fern must be approved by Waka Ama NZ 
  • Only New Zealand representative gear is to be worn at Opening and Closing ceremonies or race days.
  • IVF Policy deems that no sponsor logos (other that small clothing brand) are allowed on racing uniforms.

EQUIPMENT:

  • V1 – Zulu at 12 kg and rigged with timber iako
  • V6 – Kamanu at 130 kg utilizing aluminium iako and Comet ama

  • All canoes will be provided by AOCRA, no personal vaa / outriggers are allowed.

COURSE:

  • There will be two planned courses of 8 km and 12 km. 
  • All events will be two laps of the assigned course with the exception of the Para Va’a and Master 70 – their course will be a single 12 km lap in V1 and 2 laps of the 8km course for V6 (16km).
  • The registration and canoe launch area will be off Mooloolaba’s beach just west of the Mooloolaba River Mouth and Rock Wall Mooloolaba. A basic diagram is displayed below.

EVENT SCHEDULE:

  • Opening ceremonies will be on Saturday afternoon 10th August with training time available Friday (9th), Saturday (10th) & Sunday (11th) only.  Training times will be allocated to countries within that period by the event organisers.
  • Racing will take place from Monday, 12th August through Friday 16th August. 
  • The daily schedule will be based on having 11 hours of daylight – 6:30 am to 5:30 pm daily.
  • Details per day will be determined closer to the event and include weather and tide conditions.  
  • Each day will have three or four races occur with some divisions on the course together. 
  • A staggered start may be utilized to ensure the division racers are not in conflict over the course of their race.  Closing ceremonies will follow the end of the day Friday.
  • By alternating the events between V1 and V6 outriggers, equipment can be prepared for the next event with plenty of time allowed for crews to review their race equipment prior to their event.
